Privacy policy.

Version 1.0
Effective 22 August 2026

01 Introduction

New Zealand Builders Plate is operated by Maritime Systems Engineers Limited (“MSE”, “we”, “us”, “our”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

02 What this policy covers

This policy covers the buildersplate.nz website, public Builders Plate records and enquiries submitted to the operator. Any account-based or transactional services are also governed by the platform and transaction terms presented before an account or engagement is accepted.

03 Information we collect

Information you provide

We collect information you submit through an enquiry, registration or assessment process. This may include your name, contact details, organisation, professional credentials and information about a vessel.

Vessel and assessment records

A Builders Plate record may contain vessel particulars, builder and importer details, hull identification, capacity information, conformity statements, assessor details and supporting records supplied for verification.

Information collected automatically

This website does not currently use advertising or analytics tracking. Our hosting provider may process connection information, such as IP address, browser type and security logs, to serve the website and protect it from abuse.

04 Public vessel records

The service exists so a vessel’s Builders Plate information can be checked. Information identified as part of a public vessel record is therefore visible to anyone who opens its Plate ID or verification link. Builders, distributors and assessors must not submit personal information that is unnecessary for that public purpose.

Public records are intended to remain associated with the vessel. Where a record needs correction, we may preserve the original entry and attach a correction or superseding statement so the record’s history remains clear.

05 How we use information

  • Publish and verify Builders Plate records
  • Respond to enquiries and registration requests
  • Confirm assessor identity, scope and professional credentials
  • Maintain the integrity and traceability of vessel records
  • Diagnose faults, provide support and protect the service
  • Meet legal and regulatory obligations

06 Sharing and service providers

We do not sell, trade or rent personal information. We may share information with trusted providers who help operate the service, with MSE, Marsden Marine or another professional provider selected for an engagement, with participating vessel organisations where necessary to maintain a record, where required by law, or to protect legal rights, safety and security.

Where the platform operator facilitates an engagement with an independent professional provider, it may process booking, communication and payment information as that provider’s disclosed administrative agent. Professional assessment information remains attributable to the provider that performed the work.

Some providers may process information outside New Zealand. Where they do, we take reasonable steps to use safeguards consistent with the Privacy Act 2020.

07 Retention and security

Website enquiries are kept only as long as reasonably needed to deal with them. Builders Plate records may be retained for longer because they are intended to remain with the vessel and preserve its conformity history. When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it where appropriate.

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including encrypted transmission and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

08 Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you may request access to personal information we hold about you and ask for it to be corrected. A correction to an issued or public conformance record may be recorded as a statement or superseding entry rather than erasing the historical record.

Contact info@buildersplate.nz to make a request.

09 Security cookies

The website may use strictly necessary cookies or similar tokens to deliver and protect the service. They are not used for advertising. See Security cookies in our Terms of Use.
