How the system works

HOW IT WORKS

The plate is only half the picture.

When you buy a boat, you want to know you can trust it. Who built it? What safety standards does it meet? Can you insure it?

Find out more
  1. Find the plate

Every NZBP assured vessel carries a permanent builders plate. Usually found in the cockpit or near the helm.

  2. Scan or search

Use the QR code or Plate ID to open the vessel’s unique conformance record.

  3. Verify with confidence

See the declared vessel details, assessor information and supporting documentation together.

BUILT FOR REAL BOATING

Know what was built. Know what was checked.

Unlike many overseas markets, New Zealand has no general legal requirement for recreational boats to conform to a prescribed boatbuilding safety standard or carry permanent builder and capacity information.

Without a credible record of who built a boat and which standards were applied, insurance can be more difficult or expensive to obtain.

NZBP enables manufacturers, distributors and owners to have a vessel assessed against globally recognised safety standards, with permanent physical and digital records to support it.

WHO IT’S FOR

For everyone behind a safer boat.

Owners

Check the plate and understand the record for a vessel you own or are considering.
