THE SCHEME

Confidence, built into every boat.

A permanent plate links the boat to its conformance record. It shows what was declared, what was checked and who completed the assessment.

01 A record that stays with the boat

The New Zealand Builders Plate records the boat’s declared particulars, the standards used and the assessor responsible. The same information appears on its permanent plate and public record.

The etched plate is fixed aboard for the life of the hull. Scan its QR code to check the record at the dock, during an insurance review or when the boat changes hands.

02 Why conformance matters

Most recreational boats in New Zealand do not have to be built to a prescribed standard. Bringing a boat into conformance gives owners, insurers and buyers a consistent record of the boat and its assessment.

  • Useful evidence for insurers

The record gives insurers the boat particulars, assessment basis and assessor details in a consistent format.

  • Independent assessment

An approved assessor checks the boat and records the standards used.

  • Stays with the hull

The etched plate remains aboard and links directly to the boat’s digital record.

  • Easier to sell

Buyers can check the record themselves before making a decision.

THE PROCESS

From import to open water.

  1. Import the boat

Provide the boat’s build particulars, ownership information and supporting documents when it arrives in New Zealand.

  2. Independent conformance assessment

An approved assessor checks the boat, its documents and the declared particulars against the applicable standards.

  3. Register and receive the plate

The boat is registered and receives an etched plate with its key particulars and verification code.

  4. Sell with confidence

Buyers can check the boat’s record, understand its history and verify its provenance before making a decision.

  5. Enjoy the boat worry free

Your customers can get out on the water knowing the boat has been independently assessed against recognised safety standards.
